Prof. Guodong Zheng

Born at Lanzhou on May 26, 1960, obtained B.Sc. of Geology from Lanzhou University in July 1983 and PhD of Environmental Geochemistry from the U-Tokyo in March 2001, also performed Graduated Study in Masaryk University in 1992-1994. He is currently working as a Senior-Professor at China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and an Emeritus Professor in the Key Laboratory of Gas Geochemistry, Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources CAS. His scientific interests mainly focus on iron speciation and its implications, geological greenhouse gas emission from mud volcanic systems, microbes in metal deposits and petroleum systems, recently interested in the combination of chemical speciation and isotopic fractionation of certain elements to natural processes and environmental issues, including iron, manganese, calcium, sulfur, arsenic, selenium etc. He published over 200 academic papers and chapters in English or Chinese, received almost 20 Fellowships, awards, and honors and other qualifications by International Associations, Japanese Society of Geochemistry or Chinese associations. He is now the Chairperson of Commission on Gas Geochemistry, Chinese Society for Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry (CSMPG) since 2018, and a member of Asia-Africa Association of Petroleum Geochemists (AAAPG) since 2024.
