Prof. Andrzej Solecki

 Born on November 30, 1954, in Bystrzyca Kłodzka, he received his Master’s degree in geology from the University of Wrocław in June 1978 and his doctoral degree from the same institution in June 1987. In 2001, he obtained his habilitation based on a monograph regarding radiometric anomalies in the Sudetic Foreland, and in 2015, he was awarded the title of professor. Having previously served as Head of the Department of Economic Geology, he is now a retired professor collaborating with the University of Wrocław voluntarily.

His research focuses on economic geology and environmental impacts, including uranium deposits, environmental radioactivity measurements using gamma spectrometry, and radon monitoring with passive detectors. His fieldwork experience extends beyond Poland to include, among others, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Antarctica. He has participated in the ICGG conference (originally the First International Colloquium on Gas Geochemistry) since 1990 and has been a member of the ICGG Scientific Committee since 2001.

Outside the home university, he has held, among others, the following positions:

1995 – National representative to the IAEA for the project "Environmental Remediation in Central and Eastern Europe (Uranium Mines)";

1996 – National representative to the IAEA for the project "Impact and Remediation Technologies for Radioactively Contaminated Areas";

1996–1997 – Expert for the Phare program, working with a consortium of two German companies (Consulting & Engineering, Uranerz) and one Dutch company (Iwaco) on the preparation of a database regarding Central European uranium mining;

1997 – Independent expert for Micon International Ltd., preparing privatization documentation for a world-class Zechstein copper deposit in Poland;

1991–2006 – Author of unpublished reports and documentation regarding Polish mineral deposits, prepared for investors;

2002 – Participant in the Polish Antarctic Expedition;

2009–2010 – Scientific lead of an expert team at WS Atkins-Polska Sp. z o.o., preparing a report for the ministry on the metallogeny, market, and prospects of uranium mining in Poland
